Summertime – And the Livin’ in July Wasn’t so Easy July could have been worse if not for positive economic data

July wasn’t an easy month for most investors and the markets but it might have been a lot worse had it not been for positive offsets offered by intermittent economic data, quarterly earnings reports that surprised to the upside and developments tied to M&A and longer-term underlying trends in technology and science.

Challenges abounded from across the world from China to Europe to stateside. Chinese stocks fell further; Greek and European officials jousted to arrive at a resolution to the Greek debt problem and stateside market participants showed some anxiousness as they paused to anticipate a rate hike from the Federal Reserve sometime before the end of the year and possibly as early as September ...
